Deciding to get your scuba diving certification is the first step toward unlocking 70% of the planet that most people will never see. If you're thinking about signing up for your SSI Open Water Diver course, here is exactly what you can expect during your training.
Phase 1: Academics
Before you get wet, you have to learn the science of diving. You'll cover topics like pressure, equalizing, how your dive gear works, and how to plan a dive safely.
Phase 2: Confined Water
Next, we head to the pool (or a calm, shallow bay). Here you'll practice essential skills like clearing a flooded mask, recovering your regulator, and hovering weightlessly in the water.
