Conserving Our Coral Reefs: How Divers Can Help

Coral reefs are some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet, but they are also incredibly fragile. As divers, we have a unique responsibility to protect the underwater environments we love so much.

The Golden Rules

  1. Perfect your buoyancy. The number one cause of diver-related reef damage is poor buoyancy control.

  2. Use reef-safe sunscreen. Chemical sunscreens contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, which bleach corals.

  3. Never touch or take anything. Look with your eyes, not your hands.
